Boulder Startup Week 2017: Call for Speakers

If you <3 community and are doing something interesting in the above areas, please let me know.

Colorado is Beautiful — Timelapse

Colorado is Beautiful — Timelapse

One of my favorite things to do with my SLR since I moved to Colorado is to take timelapses.  Something about watching time pass quickly changes the way I think about the world. I just assembled some of the timelapses I’ve taken over the last year, and this is what came out.  There’s some beautiful stuff in it.  I recommend viewing in full screen.  Check it out:   Read the article >>

Heaven is purpose principle and people

Heaven is purpose principle and people

Short post today.  I’ve been reading The Birth of The Chaordic Age this month.  This quote very concisely sums up the author’s leadership style: Heaven is purpose, principle, and people Purgatory is paper and procedure Hell is rules and regulation   Read the article >>

Weekend Project: Transcri.pt

Weekend Project: Transcri.pt

One of my frustrations with podcasting at StartupCTO.io has been the lack of any easy-to-use, affordable, transcription tools.    It costs $1/ minute to transcribe audio to text. So I built something better.  Today I am launching transcri.pt – A tool that does transcription of text much cheaper than anyone else can.  The output is pretty good I think. Head on over to transcri.pt and Read the article >>

Side Project Report: Wild Game Hunter VR

Side Project Report: Wild Game Hunter VR

Just in case you thought I went full on Patchouli Boulder Hippy when I announced the MeditationVR game a few weeks ago; I have a *new game* launching today to show off. And it’s almost the opposite thematically from the first one! It’s called “Wild Game Hunter VR”, and it’s kind of like those Hunting games you can play in bars (but its in 360 degrees and you can teleport, so it’s better). There Read the article >>

StartupCTO.io Job Board

StartupCTO.io Job Board

One of the things that we set out to solve when Miles Matthias and I launched StartupCTO.io podcast was reducing the barrier to entry to becoming an engineering leader.  While the podcast solves, in part, the mentorship part of that equation, there was still a lack of availability of information on leadership positions.  A Job Board was a natural next step for us, and I’m happy to say that we Read the article >>

Dee Hock on Leadership

Dee Hock on Leadership

I’ve been reading Birth of the Chaordic Age by Dee Hock.  It was recommended to me by Jud Valeski, whom we interviewed on StartupCTO.io a few months ago. The following passage spoke to something I’ve been trying to articulate about leadership since starting my startup journey a decade ago.   It’s a 5 minute read, but is worth it: Leader presumes follower. Follower presumes choice. One who is Read the article >>
